Split basically "soft reset" your rank into lower ranks to incentivise players to grind ranks. So they won't bitch about getting walled by higher level players, its a placebo mechanic to let players feel like they are able to climb again (say you're in diamond, but you don't want to risk demoted to plat hell again) so you tryhard after split.
After the end of a season, you will get a gun charm and a badge, based on your highest rank based on that two ranking periods.
Current Season 8 split will occur in 2 days.
