>>17616509I’m not a unicorn, but even I was well aware of the live-action idols lifestyle that occurs in Japan.
The thing is, despite how hard Yagoo was pushing the mentality initially (and with it being a dry meme etc etc)
Cartoon women can’t be “live action Japanese styled idols”. They can’t.
The closest thing Japan has done in the past was with anime characters, but then that usually gets wrapped back into their VAs, who then get idolized
And recent events completely aside, Japanese fans have slowly coming to terms with this.
You know why Kizu AI popped off like she did initially?
Because she always stayed in character.
Something that she was mostly able to accomplish due to it not being in a “streaming” context.
But despite all the “lore” and “theme” the folks at Hololive and beyond present themselves as, the fact that they’re streamers is what prevents them from doing “the character” for long periods of time.
Being a real Japanese Idol with real Japanese Idol fans may have fooled everyone initially, but at the end of the day they’re just content creators with an occurring theme. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
