I can also understand the wrestling analogy as in the viewers suspending their disbelief in order to cheer for more of a archetypes/stereotype's struggle than an actual character in a completely simulated environment akin to comic book shenanigans.
I kind of see my oshi and other talented Vtubers kind of as modern day super-heros. While it's true that they hide their true identities and may act different than their alter-ego, I truly don't believe it means that they are acting fake. They are acting to some degree for sure in the grand scene of things from their archetype to their relationships with the others but they do attempt to portray the best of themselves and become a symbol, an inspiration as to what people can be.
So while I agree that it's all a setup and they are playing characters, I don't believe in my guts that they are fake but are a reflection of all that's good in themselves and by extension all of us.
