I think that for a lot of us, vtubers are a band-aid for the feelings of hopelessness that we've developed in regards to starting and maintaining relationships with women, with those of us who have had sex and (failed) relationships in the past being no exception. The fact that Gura, a lonely shut in who doesn't even like eating in public is the most popular English vtuber, speaks volumes to the co-dependence that eventually develops between vtubers and their audiences, because most of them would be the same way without this.
