Sub number? Probably, west has a bigger market and hololive can be a 24-7 full of drama mess and cover an incompetent company, but it's provides a successful chuuba network, if you follow someone else, sooner or later you'll end up in a her channel.
Popularity, social impact and revenue is another story. Think how important Sora is and yet she just reached 700k subs after so long.

There's a significant number of chumbuds that genuinely believe that when Gura passes Ai in sub count that Gura automatically becomes Queen of VTubers even though that's not how it works.

They say the fanbase reflects the talent, but this doesn't seem to hold for Gura when she's a very humble shark while her fans are more likely to be going around being numberfags and disrespecting other VTubers left and right.

Annoying Orange has 10.7 mill subscribers and Pewdiepie became a vtuber at one point, he has 109 million. Good luck beating them for the title of "champion of all vtubers". Also Gura's subscriber count is a facade judging by how many people actually watch her streams and how much akasupa she gets in comparison to everyone else. A lot of people sub to her and completely forget about her right after, her popularity is exaggerated.

Probably. Ai is still the face of Vtubers, but mostly because she started it all and had a huge head start. She hasn't really kept up with the times, plus all the mismanagement and multiple Ai's drama etc. has really hurt her sense of relevance. The only discussion about her on this very board outside this thread is because of a fucking Fall Guys costume.
