So what I understand is

Which brings me to my question: How do you fall in love with a fictional character, to the point of giving them money and convincing yourself that you're with them?

Like I get the appeal of watching vtubers, even if the only one I ever watched was kizuna ai. But like, you know they're just a computer model with a voice actor. They don't really pretend otherwise.
