>>18349533As an actual literal oldfag, I do concede the point that a lot of anime is, when you get down to it, redundant. The counterpoint is that many of the "classics" are held in that regard for a reason. Take my suggestion of the original Macross: It isn't just action, it has a strong emotional core, well directed. Many years later they made a sequel, Macross 7. It got good, eventually, but the first dozen episodes are dead boring, despite being more up-to-date. It is NOT a classic.
If you want non-action, but strong feels? There's plenty out there. May I recommend Gankutsuo?
Its from 2004 I think, and has a very unique visual style. Another good one to check out is Touch, a baseball anime that is NOT about baseball, really, I find IRL baseball dead boring.
