The server must have been mad weak before the sports festival if it couldn't handle a puny farm like that.
1.16... forgot what sub version, I think 3 or 4 fixed the coord caching for portals, so whenever a portal is connected between the 2 realms, as long as they remain valid there is no insane lag where it checks for valid areas to spawn a new portal. (which checks a huge number of blocks, millions of them)
This happened every time you went through portals and you'd be spawned in the first it found. Luckily it was never random so could be abused for elevators and 2-way transport to different areas simply by entering either side of portals. Now that I think about it, I am not sure if this has broken the hacky portal systems like that.
Worse is that it is so high instead of multiple 3 high layers which would be much better. The game won't spawn anything above the height of the mob so it is wasted space really. In a sense, it is kinda good they never, since that'd have caused way more lag.
