If you claim not to like doing a thing, then don't engage in it. If you said something in the past that would be considered "controversial" just own up to it; "Yes, I did / say that. There's no excuse to be made here." then go on with your life, if it's not something super fucking serious like some fucking rape allegation or whatever, it's not worth double downing on it and apologizing because some people are more uppity and sensitive about certain topics than others.
