yeah those look like ad-promoted clips alright.

300k~ views geting 39k subs sounds about right.
targeted properly, ads can get you subs from about 10%~15% of views.

that's a very aggressive ad campaign though.
assuming 10 cents per view, they've spent at least $30,000 dollars on youtube ads.
(might be higher than 10 cents per view if you want to get views faster)

compared to that, $2100 for a twitter campaign is peanuts.

you can set the maximum bid (how much you're willing to pay) to as low as 1 cent per view

but that means you won't get much views, you're competing with other ad campaigns with the same parameters (keywords, audience segments, countries, etc)

say you set a daily budget of $500 but max big per view of $0.01 for USA, you'll probably get 0 views and never reach your max daily budget.

say you try $0.05 max bid, you'll maybe get 500~ views per day, still not maxing out your daily budget.

since we're talking about getting 3k~4k views per day, her max bid is probably way higher than that, my $0.10 estimate is being very modest

checking her superchat celebration streams, she received 55 superchats in:
US dollars, korean won, ph peso, peruvian sol, argentinian peso, brazillian real, colombian peso, canadian dollar, japanese yen, malaysian ringgit, hongkong dollar
(this represents a rough estimation of her audience demographic)

so yeah her ad campaign isn't just USA centric so that should make it quite a bit cheaper

that is, say 10% of ad viewers will sub to a cute cheerful anime girl but only 0.1% of ad viewers will sub to a whiny, greasy male nerd, then all the nerd needs to do to match the anime girl's subs is spend 100x more money.

people who sub to you are those who:
- don't have adblock or youtube premium
- saw your ad
- clicked on your ad
- watched a bit of or the whole ad
- decided they liked it and clicked sub

but of course you'll need to make the ad video first.

you can either do a self-intro video and use that, or start streaming to 0 viewers for a few days
(preferably doing different things, different games) and make a compilation clip from your best moments and use that as the video ad.

tonya's videos don't even have tags to hijack hololive keywords like uto did, they just buy ads for vtuber related keywords, which is fair.
(in fact, her videos don't have any tags at all, they're 100% all in with their big budget ad campaign)

Okay I've still yet to see any proof of this.
I couldn't care less about Uto past her shotgun cover but I distinctly remember someone claiming she was doing this and then when I went to check not even 10 minutes after they claimed she was doing it there were no Hololive related tags for the video in question.
Is there anything at all to back this claim up?

honestly though the metatag thing isn't even a big deal.
it's more that no part of her channel or twitter even suggested that she was corporate.
she talked like an indie, gained sympathy like an indie, talked about goals like song MVs and 3D projects like an indie, and people donated to her like an indie, all the while having a big budget corporate backing her.

only when she was already 6 digit subs and wanted to quit and keep all the revenu to herself did she reveal that she wasn't indie after all
