She hasn't upgraded her weapon yet, it's too weak.
She has a shield equipped but isn't making good use out of it - she could be 2 handing her sword instead.
She's still trying to parry him fruitlessly.
She's refusing to use the jellyfish summon or the AI helper summon before the gate. Her pride is getting in the way despite not making any progress on the fight.
She could instead take a break and explore the map, gain a few levels, get a new/upgraded weapon, and get more accustomed to the game in the meantime. If she had taken 5 minutes to upgrade her sword she would have made it to phase 2 a bunch of times already.
