>>19610965>>19611007Shinobi technically means sneak, in the past they used to use "Shinobi mono" (one who sneaks) to refer to burglars, assassins, ninjas, etc. Eventually it just got shortened to Shinobi which then over time got associated with ninjas.
Ninja originally referred to a specific kind of guerrilla fighter, so originally the two concepts weren't synonymous but over time and with pop culture the image of Ninja shifted to what we know them as and now they are used more or less interchangeably
