>>19769671Because OP seems to imply that because talents are leaving, the company is somehow stupid and bleeding money. When in fact it could be reasonably profitable to use this system. Like how silicon valley incubators supply the startup resources in exchange for a cut of future gains.
>>19768945It's not certain if they are employees or contractors since we don't know how they are paid. However, it's likely a court would probably classified them as employees.
>1) work autonomy. The only autonomy that they have seems to be scheduling. Rules of conduct, exclusivity (can't moonlight as another vtuber), all point to being employees. Hell, even their names and appearances have to be approved by the company.
>2) financial controlPresumably all pay goes through the company to prevent theft. Additionally, all capital (vtuber assets) were paid for by the company. Employees are usually provided the tools needed to work, contractors usually bring their own. (And no, a personal PC does not count for this purposes since it was originally bought for private use, not exclusively for this job)
>3) nature of the relationshipContractors usually worked for fixed terms with renewal opportunities, and can even work for other companies at the same time. Employees have open-ended contracts and work regularly and consistently.
A more contractor-type entertainer might be something like a small indie band visiting various clubs to play live music; they can choose where they go, when they go, and who they contract with.
