>>19928244https://twitter.com/nijisanji_app/status/1498856212880044032This was the only statement I could find. It's... kind of a mess, if you know how Japanese works. There's a lot of subtext in each statement that's pretty normal is Japanese conversations, so it's super blunt for the them (but looks schizo for EOPs).
It has the following highlights -
> "When we confirmed the facts with the person involved (Lauren) regarding the unauthorized use of the copyrighted work, we confirmed that it was true in general, although it was an event that occurred before they belonged to our company."Lauren's 'crime' is confirmed but this reads like Anycolor itself is saying "not the company's fault".
> 本人としても自らの行いを深く反省しており> "The person themselves deeply regrets the actions THEY have committed."...ooof, reads like the fault is completely with Lauren (which might be true, but the complete distancing of themselves from the whole mess feels like trying to save their own ass).
> "The person themselves have apologized to all the rights holders and sellers to whom THEY have caused the inconvenience"...Implying Anycolor the company has not, because as mentioned earlier, they don't see this as "their" fault.
I'm cringing at how bad this entire thing looks to the Japanese.> "In addition, in order to reconsider their own actions, the person himself offered to refrain from their activities for a certain period of time, so we decided to accept this."...again, implying they were never planning on suspending him (or even punishing him), but since he's such a good regretful boy he decided to suspend himself. Euuugh.
> "In addition, we are coordinating with related parties regarding the subject of various contents and projects that have already appointed the liver, which are scheduled to be released."This is one of the only good parts of the apology, since they know that a lot of people might be pulling out of stuff soon, so it's best to give a heads up. Unfortunately the somewhat tone-deaf blame shifting above takes the spotlight away from this part.
> "We will continue to provide education and guidance to our rivals so that similar problems will not occur in the future."Standard stuff, but unfortunately due to the aforementioned attempt at denying their own responsibility, this part feels super fake.
Lauren has only done a private apology so far, and has not had an apology stream yet.
And Anycolor is completely disavowing any responsibility in this. I'm guessing this is due to the reason of it being a crime, and any acknowledgement that they were involved opens them up to legal bullshit... but in regards to PR, it looks horrible for them.
Public is not happy obviously, but I hope they at least did a proper apology in private.
