>>20730483Mel has had a series of debuffs that have really wrecked her outreach. Initially for the first 8-10 months after her debut she streamed only 1-2 times a month as she truly saw vtubing as a side hobby and didn’t expect it to explode like it did.
By Spring 2019, she was seeing how things were starting to get some traction after Gen2 started to get quite popular so she started streaming somewhat regularly to catch up. These efforts got a double whammy during the Fall/Winter however due to the combination of Erolive being nixed and the start of Manager Saga. With the end of Erolive, her speciality of titillating ASMR was forced into the shadows of members only streams. Manager Saga and the lack of support from Cover beyond them doing the legal bare minimum sapped her enthusiasm so that she returned to streaming merely 1-2 times a month through Winter up to February 2020.
That was when she had had enough of Cover’s inaction and lawyered up all on her own to get the Manager to fuck off for good and to force Cover to finally support to the extent she desired. During this period from February to June, there were no streams from her so she filled in the gap with a few Cover song releases so that her channel wasn’t completely dead.
Mid-May was when the legal situation had finally resolved itself to the point that Mel and Cover finally released a public statement regarding Manager Saga. It was also when she announced she would be returning to streaming after a bit more of a break in late June.
The final debuff, which might still be ongoing, is that shortly after her return the YouTube algorithm took an extreme dislike to Mel. The most popular theory is due to her costume giving her the appearance of being largely naked and those large swaying breasts. Whatever the cause, her channel was shadowbanned for a month or two so that it took an extra effort to even know she was streaming which effectively killed her momentum from returning to streaming.
Mel also has a bad habit of missing buff windows or not making the most of buzz moments such as Prison House with Pekora which occurred in the exact same stream as the start of PekoMoon. Her streaming activity is inconsistent as she still has one of the more active RM careers out of Hololive due to her lack of breakthrough in Hololive and her RM’s greater financials.
