>>20767876In every artistic field, there is an objective quality and a subjective quality. The objective quality is usually something that can be measured by how much effort and work was put into the art, and how clearly-defined the work's "message" and its expression is. These are things that trained professionals in those fields can discern, and what sets them (and allegedly, their opinions) apart from the common consumer. The subjective quality is usually the "I don't like expression via rap" or "to deliver this message I would have personally gone with X instead of Y" sort of feedback.
There is a "wrong" way to do art, and an actual artist giving a genuine critique of a work as being "soulless", "uninspired", or "lacking in message" is something that any aspiring artist should take seriously, which is why random fucks on the internet that don't know what they're talking about use these phrases all the time, robbing them of their meaning.
All forms of art, from music to prose to animation to fucking memes, are about expression. If you do not express anything, the work is meaningless.
