>>20877070The massive delusion that unceasing effort and quality, barring bad luck, eventually brings success - especially in the entertainment business - is the root of so much shit on this board, from 2views and their supporters whining about why no one watches them to corpo tribalism and pointless numberfagging.
I can think of nothing more bitter than to stream unceasingly to almost no one for half a decade, finally get your big break, only to throw it all away again and watch it dry up - just because you got fooled by yesmen and people who want to live in that delusion and have it apply to their own lives. Thinking that your experiences were so unique, your personality so special, and your initial publicity boost so lasting that they moulded you into a godsent entertainer prodigy who can stand alone, head and shoulders above the efforts and talents of tens of thousands of other people competing in the same arena.
And further insult would be added to injury, of course, when you see people who are in all ways inferior to you achieving far more, and you grasp how large the odds truly were and what you actually threw away. Only then would you realize that everything you ever did, what you thought was the key factor and linchpin of your success, was merely your required fee for the lottery ticket; that from now on, you can push yourself to fork out tenfold or a hundredfold of what you did before and likely never achieve an iota of what you had once grasped.
It's probably enough to break a person.
