If Hololive Didn't exist who do you think would be the more popular of the corporate vtuber groups? VShojo or Nijisanji?

Corpos would no longer be a thing without hololive's 2019 and 20 success. It's entirely possible Code Miko and Melody would have been the last the West saw of vtubers before the trend died.

It's the technology that made it possible to explode in popularity. A relatively cheap, good looking 2D anime avatar. Plenty of other people would have hit upon the idea of streaming as an anime girl. That being said, Nijisanji would be more popular. Vshoujo's existence and heritage has almost nothing to do with Japanese vtubing and would not be effect one way or the other if Hololive did not exist.

I dunno, Nyanners has been in the content creation game for a long time. People like Pikamee, Hana Macchia and the Eilene crowd would still exist without Hololive, and Nyanners/other vshojos would still see what they were doing and consider vtubing as their next step as well.

If Hololive wouldn't exist you could probably butterfly Vshojos existence away as well. If they're still around they would be the dominant western branch, NijiEN would be 2views on par with their current ID branch. /vt/ wouldn't exist, vtubing would've died off by 2022 assuming no other Holo replacement came into the picture.

The program Facerig launched in 2015 even before Kizuna Ai was a thing. That let you be characters on screen with a webcam. Someone else would have filled the gap.

The thing this board is about wouldn't have come to be without a Japanese company expanding overseas. To act like ackshually vtubing existed in the west and it had nothing to do with Japan is disingenuous.
