>>21212670the gist of the game is that on the map there are two bases, yours and the enemies, positioned at opposite sides.
connecting the bases are three lanes, various structures along the lanes which help you defend against the enemy and a jungled area between the lanes and splitting the map in two diagonally which also houses neutral monsters that either team can kill for gold and XP.
AI controlled minions will mindlessly walk down the three lanes, crashing into each other and 3/5 of each teams players will spend most of the game killing enemy minions, fighting whatever enemy player happens to be in their lane, and destroying enemy structures with the help of the minions to eventually destroy the enemy base.
the two other players are the support, who is typically stuck assisting the weak ranged autotattack based champion until they get enough gold and xp to become self sufficient and the jungler that primarily goes between the lanes in the jungle, killing neutral monsters and showing up to randomly gank enemies, assist allies, and setting up the team to take down the larger neutral monsters for powerful teamwide buffs
now what this means is that for various reasons like efficiency, over time the game has settled into an expected 'meta' where there is 1 player in each of two lanes and then two players in the bottom lane while a jungler bounces between the three lanes.
You can technically do whatever you want and send however many people anywhere but if you and two friends are dicking around trying to do something wacky like sending three people to one lane, because you are likely not as good as you think you are and everyone else on your team is unlikely to be on the same page, it's lowkey trolling the game because someone in a duo lane is going to be 1v2-3ing for a long time and the other person in the solo lane is likely going to be in the same situation and while this is not impossible to play, its out of the realm of ability for the bog average player and its very unfun
