>Hard times create strong men
In 2018 vtubers were going out of vogue. Kizuna, Kaguya, Hinata, etc... were all going downhill in popularity. People were tired of the idea, which had lost it's novelty. It would have been just another inconsequential meme fad, a footnote in Youtube's history...
But then a group of talented streamers and washed up failed idols bunch together to make a group that will revive the concept.
Gen 0, 1 and 2 work really hard to make people aware of Hololive. They have to be very innovative and talented to get attention from viewers to what seems like a dead trend, and they often get in trouble with Youtube itself, specially when bikini models are involved.
>Strong men create good times
Through sheer dedication, they manage to succeed, and Gen 3 blows it all out of the water. Interests in vtubers has been revived. There would be further controversies, but from then on Hololive's place as the N°1 vtuber group is rock solid, and it's great rival Niji is forever relegated to a distant second place. By the time Gen 4 debuts, Hololive has started to have a very sizable following outside of Asia.
Hololive English turns out to be an unprecedented success and a member of Hololive finally takes the crown of most subscribed vtuber from the old big boss Kizuna. Even the historically weakest talents of the company rise in popularity to levels unthinkable to any indie or smallcorpo.
>Good times create week men
Being part of Hololive now means automatic success, as newer talents surf the wave created by their senpais. Hiring standards are lowered and recent members seem to have little interest in streaming, seeing it only as a get rich quick scheme. Any new member is guaranteed to have more views in a week than most senpais had after a year of hard work. New members have terrible designs, character concepts are abandoned, attitudes worsen and innovation stops. A higher proportion of the audience than ever before is composed of EOP normies who don't care for vtubing and can't recognize any of the prominent figures in it's history, the original idea of Hololive is lost.
And the company stagnates while still remaining the undisputable number one through sheer inertia. <---- YOU ARE HERE
