>>21315407>>21316170With Niji EN, we're seeing the Gachikoi and non-gachikoi sides of the fandom crash into one another. And I think there's a lot of people talking past one another here. Non-Gachis are mostly pretty normie and don't understand the Gachi way of thinking, calling them unicorns and saying that "these girls won't fuck you so why do you care," but that misses the point of Gachikoi entirely. For the most part, unicorns are NOT deluded into thinking they have any chance at fucking their oshi, and so comments like this bounce off of them.
This is how Gachis actually think, for the normalfags out there. It's not a desire to have the vtuber all to yourself, it's more like holding stock in a company and feeling invested as part of a group, a communal recipient of their love and affection, like a follower of a church, and being disappointed or even outright enraged when you realize their winks and kisses were all fake, when you discover that they have a boyfriend. It is not the fantasy of a "chance" at dating the girl, but the reality of being one of many recipients of their affection. And it works because ALL of the recipients of the Oshi's love are equal. If she focuses on one individual outside of the chat, then the Gachis get incredibly jealous. That's not part of the contract. Gachikois despise any contact with the opposite sex because of their own projections, that "this guy is so much better than me so of course she'll like him", or more accurately, with another male in the room, the collective chat is no longer the sole object of her interest, her affections, and you become a third party to the interactions of a girl you like and another male. Gachis are masochistic and self destructive, they will spend days unearthing PL info and doxxing their oshi, out of obsession and curiosity and despite knowing the outcome will likely be "she has a boyfriend" they do so desperately with a glint of hope, that maybe SHE's different and I can affirm that.
And I say this as a very old school vtuber fan. Gachis are a relatively recent phenomenon in the vtuber world but it's pretty common with idols. I'm not trying to defend Gachi thinking, nor attack it. I've been in that boat myself and I know that the world can be very crushingly lonely and all you want is to spend some time with this cute anime girl without some fucking dude barging in every few seconds. GFE isn't really a "Girlfriend Experience", because with an actual woman they'll demand things from you and the experience is a mutual one. The Gachis expect to merely receive, and pay in the form of money, and not any actual emotional toil.
