It doesn’t. I learned from scratch and drew and rigged a vtuber over one weekend. A seasoned rigger could probably do a much better model in the same timeframe.
The amount of effort put into rigging is overblown so riggers can pretend it’s super hard and charge out the ass for it.

Live2D Cubism literally has a drag and free transform interface. There are functions that will mirror, duplicate, and even auto generate transformations for you so all you have to do is one side and then qc. Most movements have like three keyframes max. The working file comes prelabeled for all the animations you need (ex. head, right eye open, left eye open) you literally just need to go into the layers you’re animating, add keyframes to the corresponding animation, and transform the image.
