I was a big fan of Niji ID, until they decided to kill the ID brand and merge it with Nijisanji. I still loves them, but the thought of supporting Anycolor any further disgusts me.
Yesterday I lurked them to see how they're doing and did a bit of research. So this is what happened:
Niji ID was a big success in the days of Hana with her dad attracting overseas fans, and her genmates were also able to attract big numbers of local fans, this makes Anycolor confident of the ID and decided to invest more.
Later, they were reclining. Niji ID staffs were given a task to attract more fans to invigorate more growth. Staffs tried everything they can, by burning money making awesome events and promotions. In the end it failed, they can't compete with local agencies and indies let alone with Holo ID. The Nijisanji central management decided to fire the Niji ID management and merge Niji ID with Nijisanji management.
What Nijisanji management failed to calculate is that the main reason for the failure of ID to attract new fans is not the incompetence of their ID staffs, the problem is in their business model, and no branch actions can fix it.
It's them recruiting vtubers again and again within a short time. A lot of potential new fans were repulsed by the amount of livers already existing in Niji ID, it's 19 now! While the average local agencies only have around 5-6 vtubers. Not to mention that most are just mediocre streamers, instead of highly talented individuals like it is in Holo ID or any other local agencies.
If only they decided to improve the quality of their earlier livers instead of pumping more gens, Niji ID will be seen as an elite agency and more talented individuals will be more interested to join.
It's a wrong business model to be practiced in ID, and I think it's also wrong to do it anywhere. They succeeded in JP and EN because of pure luck, but it will cost them in the end. The story of Niji ID is just a preview of what's going to happen to the other branches if this practice continues.
