People like to single out Yamcha but that's just the entropic of every Dragon Ball character that's not Goku or Vegeta. They all become useless eventually and just hang around and job. That's why even back in the day I always preferred series like Yu Yu Hakusho, Saint Seiya and Rurouni Kenshin where you have a small group of main characters who all get to be useful and win important fights.

I'm currently rewatching the OG Dragon Ball from beginning to end and was fully expecting to be reminded of how cool Yamcha used to be, but even since his introduction he's just been a pretty mediocre character all around
