What is the appeal of asmr? Everytime I listen to one, it lowkey disgust me. Last time I tried was probably with fubuki, but I couldn't keep the stream open more than a few seconds.

To me its just a bunch of annoying whispering. In perhaps a similar vein, I don't find massages to be relaxing at all. Maybe we're just not wired that way.

For me it's important to be in a certain state to listen. If you're just sitting at your PC browsing then it definitely won't work. Go lie down on your back with your headphones on and turn some on as you fall asleep. There are a lot of different sounds and "triggers" so you have to find the ones that work for you.

i listened to some 3dp asmr where u can make sure the microphone went where it is supposed to be and it is completely different, kinda loud actually, with constant bubbling sounds.
The fact u could her her still talking should have been a giveaway, since if done correctly you can´t make out words, just muffled voice noises

Relaxation, and learning what you do and do not like. I basically have it on 24/7 as comforting background noise. But even I am disgusted with overt mouth noises, and certain triggers.
I recommend branching out into more roleplay style ASMR. Most vtubers just veer into personal attention which tends to be vaguely sensual ear cleaning or eating sounds, and that definitely isn't for everyone.

Really atmospheric ASMR with good visuals are good to try if you find yourself put off by Vtuber style ASMR.
