As the millennial generation continues to expand across the world, a study by Bank of America found millennials are more likely to move out of their parents’ home by the time they hit 18. In 2016, the first year BofA was able to study the age cohort, about half of 18- to 20-year-olds had either moved out, or were in the process of moving out.
While this is a positive development in the eyes of the Bank of America, there are some downsides. The move to “adult” living can result in less financial support, fewer social connections, and a loss of “social capital” in the form of having close relationships with parents. For millennials, in particular, this is a major adjustment to make, according to a survey released today by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
