>>2290066They literally made it because the devs watched Saki and got into Riichi Mahjong. There's even a character based on Koromo which is ironic considering Koromo is also in the game now thanks to the Saki collab.
It's differences between Chinese Mahjong and Riichi aren't even that major. If you play the CN client of MJS, they even have an alternate abridged tutorial for people who know how to play a Chinese variant and just need to know the differences.
There's also Chinese and Korean grandmasters in Go despite it also being a Japanese adaptation of a Chinese game.
