>>22902388I won't argue that the art and music in the game is top notch; that's to be expected from a game in this series and XIV definitely doesn't disappoint in that regard. The setting is very cool and the art and music are honestly some of the best in the series.
You have to understand that I went into this game fully expecting to like it a lot too, but it just doesn't do it for me and I can't get behind a game that both asks hundreds of hours from me and wants to charge me a sub fee to get to the best stuff. I just fundamentally disagree that what I just described amounts to good game design.
It honestly kinda bums me out that so many people will go to bat for this kind of game design, and I can't help but think that the people who identify strongly enough with a game like this to call people like me "casuals" are genuinely pretty stupid. I don't think that of you, to be clear.
I don't even think the devs are bad devs, I just think that they made a tab targeting MMO and I think that those are inherently bad games. Exploitative games, even. I genuinely do not have time for a game like this, and I sincerely believe that games like this force players to make time for them at too great an expense in order to see the best of what they have to offer.
It just isn't worth it to me, and I wish the business model at play here wasn't so lucrative and enabling of addiction.
