What is /asp/?
A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.
FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber? Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!
>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go? Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.
>Where can I find artists/riggers? vtuber.gg , ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit,
Skeb.jp , etc.
>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models? Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off
nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or
booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!
>Where can I learn how to digital market myself? https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage >Where can I find some good games to stream? https://twitchtracker.com/games https://sullygnome.com/ >Twitch or YouTube? The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.
>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content? First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Alright, this time I will come up with a design. My main interest in real life are weight lifting, Japanese and 3DCG(learning). I am a bald man and I refuse to have a male model with hair. I have a very rough ESL accent. Whenever I am unsure of what to say in a social situation, I default to talking about muscles. The kind of content I want to do:>scuffed Japanese karaoke >join a minecraft server, create a minecraft server >Elden Ring playthrough (I'm casual but I finished DS+Sekiro) >Japanese teaching/studying stream >3DCG stream My idea for a design is to be a non-descript bald anime man, or I could finally stop repressing my true nature and become the loli babiniku that I was always meant to be, something like pic related. I want the blonde hair with drills and frilly dress, but more cunny. I'm not sure how to make it cuter and funnier. I've always been trying to hide it, but God I love cunny. I used to put down my friends whenever they were watching animes with characters a bit too young, but deep inside... I just can't keep living this lie. Name idea is Josephine. What do you think?

Former babi, but just from changing my model from female to a male I've seen a definite increase in retention and viewership. I'm going to wait another month or two before I'm fully convinced, but making zero announcement and making zero changes to my content I've seen a lot more retention swapping from my female Live2D to a male one. Not saying you should all swap but just giving my experience being a babi for almost a year vs having a male character. The female model was given to me by a friend when I started streaming kind of just as a joke/way for them to get some experience drawing/rigging models so on my end there was very little investment, but maybe something to consider.

Your options are
A. Hire an artist. Gather up some references (hair, body type, clothing, accessories, faces, different characters who fit the overall look you're going for etc), type of a SHORT description of a few sentences describing what you're looking for that include the overall mood you're looking for (serious, carefree, smug, etc.) and a short description of what you have in mind including things you'd like to avoid (for me it was always facial hair, fur collars, and short hair), and anything else IMPORTANT you feel you should include. Don't go full on OC lore, that shit doesn't matter unless it's related to how the character looks.
B. Buy a model from
Booth.PM like the OP suggests and learn how to use Unity to add a few accessories then modify the skin textures to suit your need, a model from that website will put your quality well above any new chuuba and well above a lot of established chuubas in general.
C. Continue on with your terrible look Vroid.

>>23262080 Honest advice my man. I started with a Vroid model myself. It was hot garbage, but I had fun with it. I barely got 2ccv, but I didn't care because I wanted to see if Vtubing was for me. I decided it was, and then took my Vroid as a base reference to a designer, asked them to make it not shit and provided a bunch of other references. I'll be ready to stream in a few weeks with a much improved model and a mindset for growth, because the Vroid model told me that while it was unwatchable janky, It was something I enjoyed doing and that It should be improved.
If you already streamed with that... "avatar", and you'll know you'll enjoy it, go ahead and commission one yourself. But the other anons are giving you a good and honest warning when they're saying that you're not going to leave rock bottom with that. I'm counting my blessings that I wasn't this stupid. Is really cool anon here? How do we network in twitter if we decide to lean more towards prerecorded content for youtube (eg. nux) and not aiming for the typical vtuber audience? I think networking with chuubas would secure that niche audience and get off to an easy start with like minded people, but would also lock me from reaching the broad youtube audience
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>23268181 Other anons gave plenty of advice on that front. the Vroid model I used and the one I commissioned look radically different, and it should because 2d has none of the limitations of Vroid. If you think all of the advice was trash, then disregard what they said and go to an artist that does character design commissions. It's going to be pricey, but if you didn't know that ahead of time, that's on you. And that's more than just the model, btw.
Don't try to get ahead of the curve when you have stuff to do that's right ahead of you. I think you've got your priorities a little backwards here, but I wish you the best of luck.

The only people who would network with you are other people in your same situation, a catch 22 really.
You would have to be popular in the first place to get valuable people to network with. Either that or provide a useful skill such as being an editor or artist for a YouTuber

Hey /asp/ I'm still looking to improve my voice and audio setup, I'll talk about the latter in a bit, but I'm still in that mindset of really wanting to get rid of my accent or at least adapt my talking to something that's more pleasant to listen to. A lot of people have said that i should just listen to my voice more to get used to it, but now that i listened to almost all my vods in the past two months, I've grown to dislike my voice even more. Now i know this is subjective and a lot of people have said my voice is "fine", but fine isn't what i'm looking for. I want it possibly be a reason why people watch me, because i'm trying to appeal to the comfy / voices to fall asleep to crowd as i don't have the desire / energy to be hyper and i don't want to be just generic either.
I would like to do reading streams and do VA reps live too, since they could spice up my retro game playthroughs a bit more, but my voice needs something. For those who don't know my voice yet here's a recent stream (
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1466818988?t=0h15m45s )
If you know any ESL with deep voices, especially european or even german that you think have enjoyable voices i'd like to see them. I know shylily is german for example but somehow i feel like her accent is working a lot in her favor also she's female. I feel like i end up having this nasaly voice and i hate stuff like pronouncing "that" as "dat". I know getting rid of an accent needs active training, but i'd like to hear some examples of chuubas or strimmers with male sex voices + accents as a starting point. I've listened to vox, but i think i'll never get that clear of an english voice.
Anonymous
>>23275376 >I've grown to dislike my voice even more this is a meaningless statement unless you are point out specifically what about your voice you dislike and exactly why you dislike it. your current answer is "it's not like other people's voices" which is a useless answer.

If I'm to record teasers and clips in the future, i want to voice them do some VA. I'm at the point where my streams are "fine", but fine isn't gonna make it. I’m not accusing you of being a sexual predator or a rapist anon, just a pedophile.

Name some avenues larger vtubers "excel" at moreso than some of their smaller counterparts, besides just being better at the more baseline skills that make a streamer? Actual talents or skills these streamers have that sets them apart. Obviously there's some exceptions for people like Iron Mouse who are one in a million with actual professional-tier talents, but that didn't even come out until she was already near the top.
Just to use a random example, why do you believe this guy is more successful than other guys doing the exact same thing?

>>23278356 >I have to pick a couple avenues where I want to excel this doesn't exist. stop looking for it.
being a chuuba is one thing, being an entertainer. there are a limited set of skills that fall into being a good entertainer. either you have them or you need to work on them but you will never find some undiscovered "avenue" that hasn't already been done before that will magically get you success.
being a streamer is something that has been refined as a "career" for more than 10 years. the things people do, they keep doing because it works. over the last 10 years, more people have experimented with unorthodox content styles than you can even think of. most of them weren't successful which is why you don't see them. news flash, you're not going to be the one to usher in a new format of streaming that's never been done before.
that fact that your streams are "fine" already puts you miles ahead. the problem isn't finding "avenues" you excel at. the problem is getting more people outside of the /asp/ thread of the /vt/ board of 4chan to know you exist.
this is what i mean when i say i'm so pissed when i see aspies repeat shit like "i want my viewers to love me for the content i make" you don't have viewers. no one knows you exist. fix the problems in the right order and stop trying to do retarded shit.

NTA but as a hardcore lolicon I am always disappointed to find out that other lolicons prefer their lolis to be mature, mentally. When someone says they're one it really feels like a coin flip between people who like petite (or even childish) bodies, and people who want more than that.
My 2 cents is that yeah, you can be attracted to lolis and not like it IRL, just like you can like violence but not be attracted to it IRL.

>>23273809 >Owning up to uooooohhhh child tummy erotic is a fast track to getting you cancelled and potentially banned. Citation needed?
None of the smoltubers have gotten cancelled or banned yet. From top to bottom:
Gawr Gura goes around putting "Cute and Funny" awards over her drawings and encouraged Laplus when she said that Calli is a lolicon.
Shondo already made lewds of herself and then argued that it was totally fine and said that people who don't like loli should be gatekept.
Alice Alucard... Jezas, just open her twitter.
Non-loli centric vtubers who admit to being vtubers also don't seem to catch flack for it. See Melody or Saruei who already admitted to it openly.
If anything, it seems the loli lobby holds so much power that you should kneel.

Is it wise for people who have ikemen models to openly lust over 2d girls? Like having a stream exclusively about harem series, best girls, tomboys, milfs, etc. I'm guessing that being ikemen itself already alienated male audience, would this behavior alienate female audience also?

They're images of lines in the shape of weird alien creatures made up of bright, unrealistic colours. This is why it's a semiotics argument. You keep insisting that the signifiers at play here, the words "loli/shota" and "child," both invoke the same concepts in the people who consume the media you're talking about. For the majority of people, they aren't interchangeable.
You're trying to argue the thoughts of people who consume a type of media that you don't, while those people tell you that you're wrong.

He's still +500 CCV.
This bothers me, thinking about it. The only thing that needs to happen for cancellations to stop happening, is that people need to stop caring about them.
Evidence shows that viewers don't care at all, but it seems chuubas are still afraid of it (See: Bungo retaining his viewers but losing business partners like his artist and people he's collabed with). We're legitimately this close to making cancellations not matter, other vtubers just need to stop wise up.

I didn’t go to basic linguistic school and I don’t even have a single year of content to back this up, to be fair. >>23280427 >losing business partners like his artist >500 CCV Both of these are wrong
He kept his artist, he even got another model from them and one came out saying "Not my fault what my client does." and he can barely hit 400 most days. One thing to keep in mind though is that he's seen zero growth in a year despite almost constantly being on the rise from Day 1 and slowly but surely been on the decline.
Taiga would likely be at 1k+ viewers right now if he hadn't alienated so many chuubas, ruined his collaboration and industry opportunities, and burned every single bridge out there. He was the biggest "from zero" male until Kenji came along and had no reason to stagnate aside from his "cancelling".
While he got lucky and stagnated in an amazing spot (on top of the money he got from the schizo), say the same happens to you at the 20-30 viewer range, then what?

But what purpose does self-made art have? You've been posting and shilling super frequently, menhering about "guys are my ears too pointy in this png", and all it's done is give you antis, and at least one creep who's obsessed with the design... But doesn't say good stuff about the stream.
Do your streaming(plus) reps. So not just streaming, but practice talking in a clear voice, video editing, filling dead-air, VA skills, etc
With VA skills, it can be as simple as altering the pitch and tempo of your voice. Personally, I imagine having to talk around certain shaped inflatable things in my mouth, to push things into certain resting positions, and that's good enough to have distinct voices.
