I just think the model of Irys looks rubbish in general.
It looks like it's a 360p video from 2009.
I also can't comprehend why her face looks so fucking blurry, especially the eyes.
I mean the design itself is okay I guess but the model is just so low quality and the art style is horrendous for what it's for.

Idk why, but I have no issue with irys's model. Never have. People point out issues with it, but I think 90% of the issue is just people having a knee jerk reaction of >different art style is... le bad!!!

I think the design and style is fine, but the rigging distorts her face in an unflattering way. There are certain angles that aren't very good.

I think you misunderstood, what I mean is: I can't stand stuff like heterochromia and (some) animal traits
For example, look at the cast of Umisea: Ina has the pointy ears and flaps, Gura has the shark tail, it's not seen here but Marine has eyes with different colors each one, and Aqua is the only normal one. I can tolerate it sometimes though, like when Gura wears the Atlantean outfit

The art styles were incredibly varied already. Look at Kiara, compared to gura, compared to kronii, etc. They were never that uniform, most done by entirely different artists, it's just hololive decided to introduce a model with shading and suddenly that was too far. Irys is a classic example of the bandwagon effect.

Irys' design problem is not with being asymmetrical. It's just plain ugly. I imagine that her designer just wiped their ass after abundant diarrhea, and had something resembling this design on a toilet paper. Then they made a photo of it and sent it to Cover as a prototype and Cover approved.

NTA but to me it seems like a problem with just how overloaded the design is and how certain angles make her face look wider than the angle seconds before.

She has two sets of horns different sizes,two different colored eyes,elf ears that shoot straight to the sides like Shreks ears, her hair is just way too large and wild(would not be a problem if it wasn't for the horns and ears) that it looks off with the ears, and the nose looks like a pimple unless you focus on it.

And as I mentioned her face tends to go from normal size to kind of wide when she moves kind of like what happened to Calli 3d model face becoming flat from certain angles.

If they fixed the animation face problem, the ears, and maybe do something about the horns I think she would be fine.

Same, I think the artstyle of her model is definitely unique and different from the others. At least the rigging on her mouth is great, but as for everything else I think it's fine the way it is

Some artists are less suited to making vtuber models than others, and IrYS with redjuice is a prime example of that.

It's the same with how there are some fantastic artista doing god awful illustration work when creating characters for gacha.

They have to consider factors with composition outside of their comfort zone, and it doesn't always work out. Factor in rigging after that to complicate things even further

I what I don't understand is why do you autistically hate Asymmetrical designs. One of the first things they teach you art classes is that symmetry is kinda boring, since you're lazily copy-pasting one side to the other. An asymmetrical design helps break up the monotony on how a character looks like. Viewers find it more interesting when both sides have different or uneven elements.

Look at Gura, Ina, and Marine's clothes. Gura's sharkmouth on her hoodie isn't symmetrical, and Ina only has stockings and arm sleeves on one side. Marine has her heterochromia obviously, but her outfit is subtly assymetrical with her pins/medals being only on one side.

Aqua may seem Symmetrical at first, but even she has that single blue ahoge hair on one side.

Because shit like this makes it looks like the character forgot to put on the rest of their clothes, and in the case of asymmetrical socks makes it look like they're too dumb to pick a matching pair of socks out of a drawer. Just makes it feel like people who use heterochromia to make their character look cooler.

From a design standpoint, I get the desire to add in a little pop of color, especially since with vtubers the majority of the design being seen is only from the shoulder up.

Artists really need to start thinking of better ways to achieve this though, heterochromia is overused and has been overused since even before the vtuber boom.

You may hate it but it's a fact that heterochromia makes a character stand out more and be recognized easier. Especially when we almost always look at the facial features first before diverting our eyes to the other details of a character, which is a thing that happens in real life too.
