The circumstances in which it develops is unconventional but there is absolutely nothing inherently weird about falling in love with a person and then being jealous over them.
People who think gachikoi are weird hyperfocus on the "how did it happen in this circumstance" part and completely ignore the part where, regardless of how something that happens very uncommonly actually ended up happening, it doesn't change the fact that it DID happen, and they are now in love.
