Rational people don't dislike things BECAUSE they're mainstream. Often with popular video games, movies, or other media, certain things are sacrificed in attempt to appeal to the broadest demographic possible. For video games, as an example, Elder Scrolls removed a lot RPG elements in its newer games to appeal to the mainstream. Which is why enthusiasts, ie /v/, will generally dislike it and gravitate towards less popular games that can offer those mechanics.

Your average otaku NEET is getting exactly what they want with Hololive's content, and popularity really has nothing to do with it when it's only popular in it's own tiny sphere.
