Sony's own vtuber projects didn't work out for them, and Prism's CEO was already looking to get acquired anyways. Sony gets a new group of vtubers under their belts without having to pay the costs of models and such, while the Prism CEO gets to brag about having a Sony partnership. Easy decision for both parties.
