>>24735472The whole vsinger thing feels like a failed concept overall, and they don't just dump it and make her a regular EN more to save face than anything.
They were originally looking to hire 1-3 girls but wound up with just one. Granted she's a really good one but a one-person gen is literally, literally "fucking what" tier. Why do that at all then. She would have been fine in Sana's spot in Council (no offense). It would have made all the sense in the world to have Mori pull a Fubuki and be a part of both Myth and Hope at the same time as she's the most music-inclined Holo ever, so at the very least it'd technically be a duo, but we don't even see that.
So if I get the gist of the point of Vsinger it's that she gets a special budget to do extra music stuff. Like when she debuted she had an album, ceasar salad of despair or whatever.. What Cover got so backwards about all this is that people are going to be drawn to a talent's original songs AFTER they get famous as a streamer personality. Unison all by itself would have been just "meh, random song" but because it's Marine's after she already had a huge fanbase, suddenly people care. When you debut someone, they are a blank slate, there is no time for some big committed fanbase to have formed yet so there is no emotional extra connection to hearing music from them. If anything that invites people to judge way more harshly because it implies they want you to take this person seriously as a musician, for their music because they think it's so good that it doesn't need to be "fun/thematic good for a vtuber" kind of design to be liked. Yet, it isn't that. Irys isn't a fucking musician, she doesn't fucking write this stuff, she is a self-trained singer like Gura, it is literally "some group gets paid to put it together and they hand her a sheet of lyrics to sing" and that isn't gonna get peoples' attention. I feel like
Cover was all "why isn't it working, why aren't they going for it like they did Mori" and have been phoning in everything Irys-related the past six months. The reason an immediate music focus worked for Mori, is because Mori actually fucking made the stuff herself of her own volition, it's an actual expression of herself rather than something premade for her to sing over like Irys. I don't even like Mori's music, but I can see why it registered in peoples' minds that it actually-counts as a part of her vs Irys. There's also a kind of chicken vs egg thing of "if they hire an actually-good musician girl why does she need hololive then and why would she want to make corny anime-themed stuff" however so I can see why they had difficulty in figuring out what vsinger is supposed to be/how it'd work in the West. That all however begs the question why do it.
