specifically holoJP -- i think nowadays people get into vtubers believing they're just entertainers with a live2D avatar, completely unknowing of the actual idol part of vtubing
holoJP, like said, looks up to kizuna AI and are traditionalists, while they stream and are entertaining, they actually do have to perform idol-like things - there is multiple solo concerts the talents have performed, there is sponsors, events, collabs that happen IRL (not to mention holofes), things like VARKs as well
they go through actual voice training and dance lessons (mentioned multiple times by various holos), holoJP are actual closer to virtual idols/traditional vtubers and hololive IS an idol company
i mostly say holoJP because they are involved the most, holoEN and holoID do get involved but i think its unanimous that JP is the main thing
nijisanji to my knowledge did have like a nijifes or something? i'm not aware of if they have as many IRL deals and such going on, but the group and their content seems more like just virtual streamers
anybody can do karaoke, release songs, stream, or whatever the modern vtuber illusion seems to be, but the actual spirit of vtubing -- concerts, events, the interactions is something i really only feel from holoJP and far older vtubers
