Also, your use of previous here sounds odd. While technically correct, I suggest using "prior to" or "before" in the future as those sounds much more natural.

Whatever messages came before the ones we saw isn't known, but given that the general tone of their conversation in 2018 was incredibly distant and formal, it would only make sense for the previous small exchange to have been many years ago

Any instances of unnatural grammar in your posts are all of a very similar type, I wonder what your first language is. 'you proved to be' instead of 'you've proven yourself to be', 'said by' instead of 'you said', 'bury you on', two instances of using 'previous' in an unnatural way, 'show even the slight context' sounds very unnatural, etc etc etc
