But it's a fact that imageboard culture and memes have always been years ahead of repost sites like Twitter and Reddit (or shit like 9gag and cheezburger a long time ago) because jokes are inherently contextual and evolve even within a single thread. Anons will actually bother to open MSpaint for 5 seconds and make a funny edit of troll science, Squidward, loss.jpg, etc., instead of shamelessly stealing a joke or not-so-subtly reposting it as

It's easier to farm upvotes with reposts and stolen memes than it is to make your own OC, so that's by and large what people do.
