>>2547792>The fact that you assume 4chan is in any way niche or differentNah, not even going to engage with this section of the bait. Moving on to this however...
>"Depth" is the crutch of the midwit, the pseud, and the garbage script writer in the exact same way greyscale art cinema is the crutch of garbage cinematographers or edgyness and quirkyness are the crutch of people without personalityEven this I struggle to tackle adequately. You're actually correct here, it's just not an actual argument against what I said.
>Ive never meet anyone that called a movie or a game "deep" that wasnt an intellectually bankrupt mongoloid with zero creativity or artistry.Sorry about that, maybe make more friends, speak to more people?
>ESOASM and No Country For Old Men are not deep. Neither is "want to delete your save to help someone else? This is very impactful btw".Finally, the only part of this tripe worth a damn. Perhaps you have a alternate definition of depth than my own. If so, I'll make myself a bit clearer:
There are techniques and tools in artistry that are, for whatever reason, are less accessible than others. Wordplay, inside jokes, references, double entendre, the list is endless. They are less accessible simply because they are not common knowledge. When I say "depth", I simply mean utilizing these 'inaccessible' techniques and topics that, do to their specific nature, again, resonate with those that do get them, or take the time to think about and understand them, on a deeper than normal level. And, whatever you may think, it DOES do this.
Edgy shit has greater depth to teenagers/kids. Most people nowadays don't like it, and it's easy to make, but it is. Greyscale has greater depth to... whoever the fuck actually likes that.
Depth, as I use the word, is about honing in on a particular experience you want to convey, audience you want to communicate with, idea you want to explore, or what have you, and recognizing that for one reason or another it will alienate a more general audience in one way or another, going ahead and reaching as deep as possible to invoke that feeling in those that you're aiming at.
I use the 4chan example because the site factually still has features and a culture that alienate a general audience from using it (features that resonate with the userbase), not any 'secret club' bullshit.
Of course, it all exists on a spectrum, which is why nothing is "deep" definitively. But your entire argument about "Dumb your shit down Taro, Mom and Pop don't get it!" is fucking asanine and the absolute stalest approach to art.
He would more than likely look at our back and forth and have his views reinforced, because contrary to what you think:
> also think he's an actual aspie and thinks that since he's had 3 years to think of something, people will organically connect points A and Z and think the same way he didhe knows that most people won't do this and chose to go forward with the decisions anyway.
Everything from the character models, to the 'replaying' structure of the game, to the color pallet and even the fucking box art is off-putting to many, many people. These were all conscious decisions. The only reason why the game has a tenth of it's audience is because PlatinumGames swooped in to make the gameplay actually half-decent. Otherwise, Taro wouldn't probably not have even given a fuck.
That's depth. It's not an inherently better or worse approach, but sure creates a hell of a lot of variety.
