Vocaloids were the rage back then before vtubers came into being (in Japan), probably most of them grew around them, also loose permissions and some famous producers from today i.e Giga-P, buzzG, JIN, Kikuo, CleanTears, Yuyoyuppe or DJ'TEKINA//SOMETHING can be traced back to their vocaloid days so you can bet their vocaloid style songs will stick around for a long time.

Don't quote me on this but I think the cover culture on the Internet in japan could have gone big at first on niconico with utaites (people who do covers on niconico, examples of utaites are e ve, amatsuki, 96neko) who sang mainly vocaloid songs, they later migrated to youtube. I think this may have influenced many to cover vocaloid songs since utaites were quite big back then, but I mean there are other factors obviously this is just my thought or opinion

It's vastly cheaper and easier to pay for the right to use someone else's work when you can literally program something to play it for you

Cover bands live for this shit by the way, there's a very, very good chance that any music you hear in public (and not at a concert by the artist) is actually a cover

Do they? I feel like they cover popular stuff like Ado, Yorushika and YOASOBI more. Granted some of those have Vocaloid roots.

Anyway before VTubers, being an utaite was the 'thing' and most of them covered Vocaloid music. A lot of VTubers used to be utaite, so it makes sense to just keep singing the stuff they kinda grew up around.
