Imagine dumping money into a project like this for it to only receive luke-warm reception. The time and effort arn't an issue, because it's an extension of your brand and part of your job is to sell yourself to your fans, but the money you put into it might not get recouped in any real tangible way.
The grey-name problem is another issue entirely, but it plays into this. You have your hardcore fans who will enjoy/forcebly enjoy anything you put out because they want to see you happy and want to see you do well, but getting any sort of feedback from them is almost worthless because they want to see you happy about your efforts. There's some 'super fans' like this

So you have to turn to greynames and then on top of that have to suss out who is being genuine and who is there just to shit on you/stir the pot. It's a rough position and hard to navigate, which is why you see any one of the girls who's interested in actually promoting their brand struggle with engaging more critical mentions.
