I'm guessing the pandemic made it impossible to do mocap for a few months straight then they just lost interest after that. She still uploads regularly on her other channel and it's even more surreal.

Not really, she was absent since 2019, her last big thing was the Guinness Record with the Nissin Soba. Mika Pikazzo's The Moon Studio failed and with it, an idol project lead by Luna and PPH called the Kotodama Tribe. Probably it was Sony Music's fault.

I feel more sorry for PPH. Everytime PPH mentioned Luna always mentioned as well. Luna has made a very high bar for the kouhais to follow. Did they really had done anything worth mentioning aside from the announcement? Because I never heard them ever since at that point.

Probably overestimate the target market and time frame to success. They tried so much to push vtubers into mainstream by promoting it to be on par with Miku/Vocaloid or idol business. To be fair though 2019 is very critical moment since at that time Nijisanji and Hololive already known by many with basically idol-like business model but I think it was too early to push vtuber into mainstream. They should wait for couple months or years before realizing this or by pushing it slowly with TV debut and such.

To be fair, Luna had anxiety issues and stage fright. Her livestreams were kind of awkward and Ai-chan and Siro were able to tease her a lot. Maybe she disliked so much to become an idol. Just look how Sony ruined 22/7.
