>>25267359It doesn't appear as though you understand the problem. Somehow you understand that GFE/BFE chuubas are often hypocrites, yet you still get to the point that it is just the consumer's fault (what with claiming that its simply on the audience to control their emotions and vtubers are allowed to bank off of the ego boost unabated). However, no one is actually lifting the onus away from the viewers who fell for the bait (seriously, are you new? have you never been on this board until today?). Rather, people are giving the hypocritical chuubas the appropriate amount of chastising relative to the insane amount of sociopathy they exhibit.
The point is, as you, yourself, noted, chuubas will bank off their own parasocial relationships with their viewers and then turn around and shit on said parasocial relationships (usually by deflecting and refusing to call what they like and do as parasocial). That's why Finana is a dumb, unself-aware hypocrite (befitting of her age): she, like other vtubers, want to have their cake and eat it too. You CANNOT, perform in an environment where you lean into and bait a parasocial market and then try to split hairs about the audience you bring in. Any schizo that comes to you is your problem just as much as it is the schizo's. Mindlessly trying to reverse course and deflect blame back onto the audience, solely, is something these chuubas only do to protect their personal and social identity from being seen as an enabler for the ever-derogative "parasocial" behavior they claim to hate. I find this mindset bullshit. If they're targeting down the "bad apples" (as Vox put it), sure that's fine. But don't pretend as though you don't actively cultivate and grow those bad apples when you actively lean into making them.
Also, like Finana, you failed to express your point correctly. No one can actually control their emotions. Telling people to be less emotional is simply retarded. The appropriate argument is to say people need to "control their actions IN SPITE of their emotions". For example, if someone pushes you on the ground, but you don't want to fight, you'll still get mad/frustrated/irritated. The emotional reaction is inevitable, but you don't need to retaliate.
Lastly, "I think chuubas see it as just lightly flirting with the audience" is a truly disingenuous statement considering the wide breadth of intimate things different chuubas will do to bait parasocial responses. Haha, date stream and your my boyfriend/girlfriend, haha here's an engagement ring to show off our marriage, haha here's you kiss goodnight sweety, etc. The people that are targeted as hypocrites aren't w/in the light end of the parasocial category. Don't try and display them as such. Otherwise, these GFE/BFE chuubas are the epitome of disingenuous (if you're right and chuubas only think this behavior is "lightly flirting").
tldr: I've little sympathy for any vtuber or streamer that leans into parasocial relationships but also goes on twitter to dunk on parasocial relationships for social credit. Own up to your bullshit. People who buy into the service are free to leave if the service turns out to be bad, but at no point are they allowed to retaliate to poor service with death threats/harassment.
We square?
