Why would that remove the awe? You're still looking at a piece of knowledge that's ~5000 years old. It's not interesting to you that even that long ago commerce and law was developed enough to need or provide proof of purchase?

I am not a professional clay table scratcher, but I would assume it is actually some effort to carve the correct information into the clay and treat the clay to make it durable enough to still be around 5k years later. And the fact it was written itself should make it pretty valuable since not many people were able to write

I guess buying in bulk makes sense.

As someone who works in archeology, that's a vast majority of the artifacts we find in excavations. Sure any royal treasures get all the press, but just finding even someone's food recipe is a big find since it shows how they lived.
