It has a larger menagerie of enemies/bosses with more diverse attack strategies and movement patterns, varied environments, more dynamic challenges (not just killing shit, you're navigating environments and solving puzzles).
Also in DS you're overcoming obstacles while moving toward the end of the game. It has context, challenge, and catharsis. In Monhan you're grinding so you can grind harder; it's just a shitty MMO with slightly better than tab-target combat.
