Since parasocial relationships are the new buzzword that is rapidly losing all meaning, here's a reminder: If you watch a vTuber because of the person on the other end and not because of the content they are creating on stream, that's parasocial behavior.

I think we should create a mathematical formula to help ground this issue in the realm of reason, rather than the endless expanse of opinion.

If:
X = Parasocialness
P = Personality
C = Content

Then:
X = P > C
This means that the person in question is in a parasocial relationship with the target chuuba, no questions asked.

Conversely:

X = P < C
This means that the person in question merely views said chuuba as a means of entertainment, nothing more.

This then begs the question, "how does one quantify entertainment?" Furthermore, if one enjoys the target chuuba's content and personality equally. Are they still in a parasocial relationship? What if they aren't gay and the chuuba is the same sex?

This is my biggest issue with this whole debacle. Why is NijiEN so retarded? They do realize that they're shooting themselves in the foot, right? They are actively stigmatizing the community.
Not only are they preventing people from wanting to be associated with VTubing but they're also making themselves look like asses in front of the fans who are smart enough to pick up on their hypocrisy.

People do remember that the western response to the Rushia yab wasn't all just support for her right? There was a vocal amount of non-/here/ people who weren't even mentally ill fandead who thought she was a dumbass for pretty much doing it to herself for cultivating that kind of audience.
With this event, the stigma is gonna get much worse. Doesn't matter if you are a Holonigger, Nijinigger, neither, or both, you are going to be seen as the new brony.

Both sides obviously know they'll probably never meet each other in real life and a vast majority can separate their real lives from this digital relationship they have with one another
But now we have Vox who cultured a BFE audience then went on to publicly condemn them when it was just his audience that wasn't able to make that separation. Now there's an onus on being "parasocial" and people that watch vtubers will be painted as poorly adjusted, desperate, and depraved when the relationship should actually be safe and part of the appeal

I honestly am parasocial not with the streamers but with the chat, and I think everyone is too. I watch react videos so I can see the chat, and when something funny or weird happens, you see everyone else respond in kind. It makes us feel alive, like we're participating in this as a group, and adds emotion to videos. I mostly watch only long informative videos if there is an audience there. I don't care about the streamer at all, and neither do most people. Why else do people watch streamers like forsen react to content when he doesn't even say anything.

VTubers are the same honestly, I can't imagine watching a streamer with no chat, it would e so boring. Perhaps if you are an EOP and only fixate on the streamer it's very different, but I think the parasocial stuff extends beyond just the streamer; it's the fact we participate in a community. It's just human
