>>25540544I've seen a lot of Indians on the internet blaming the British for centuries of colonialism but honestly the colonialism in India pales compared to the one in SEA and Africa. At least Indian elites were allowed to get educated in England, but in SEA almost none of the natives ever allowed to go to school.
After WW2 while almost every colonies were given freedom, countries like Indonesia and Vietnam had to fight bloody wars to gain it, thus destroying infrastructures and stuffs needed to recover. Centuries of colonialism and divide et impera tactics left a fractured society so SEA also plagued by genocides and instability.
That's why SEA is currently a shithole, not without reasons, it's just not as simple as people being lazy or stupid.
But the next 20 years is gonna be interesting, solely because Indonesia has a good prospects and trajectory. 40% of SEA are Indonesian and if Indonesia can thrive, so are the other SEA countries, just like the whole world thrive because of China's rise since the 90s.
Whether the world like it or not, SEA especially Indonesia is gonna have a bigger impact in the world's economy, politics, and culture in the next decades.
