This is just my opinion, though, and I'm sure other anons will strongly disagree with this, but I feel like vtubing relies heavily on parasocial relationships, unapologetically so. It's just that the term is tainted by one specific context, but me rooting for and following Arurandeisu's improvement in his singing reps with each update and getting genuinely happy for him and glad I'm supporting him on this road, even though I have no romantic feelings for him, is 100% a parasocial relationship, and it's a big part of my enjoyment of his content.

I feel like it's a hard thing to consciously "try to get into", most of us just find ourselves into it. You just check a few clips, find them funny, and it goes from there. The best things about the hobby are only really great if you're already very much into it, so it's hard to recommend. It's not like trying to explain why I love From Software games so much, where I can just recommend my favorite game and let you play it for yourself. My favorite things to happen in Hololive will mean nothing for anyone on the outside.
