First of all, since those early Gura days YT has rolled out at least 2 updates (late 2020 and 2021) that more "accurately" count CCV which now results in many streams having up to 20% audience simply not appear in metrics anywhere. Are they real or are they bots is up to debate but that's not the point.
Secondly, when Myth debuted it was pretty much corona peak in the West so everyone were just...there. Moreover, first EN corpo group buff was also real.
Thirdly, sorry to say this about other EN vtubers but back then Gura had no real competition. Today's equivalent would be removing top 10-15 JP vtubers and then suddenly dropping peko out of nowhere who would mog everyone.
Finally, when you take everything into consideration their situation is just too different to compare. Salome is basically a meme while gura was jesus in EN vtubing sphere. Jesus died quickly and did nothing for 2k years still remaining popular and gura is basically enjoying the same snowball effect right now while being lazy as fuck.
