The counts for new videos are extrapolated from the dislikes of people who use the extension. The more people use it the more accurate it'll be. If you'd rather see nothing you're free not to use it and just be a good boy for Google.
The extension would already be worth it for me even if all it did was preserve the dislike counts that already existed before Youtube started hiding them.

It means nothing because the sample is already biased toward people who tend to dislike more videos than the average user.
