Loving the unity but this does make me curious what stood in the way of them collabing more often when they were both in Holo given they been collabing a hell of alot more since.

Maybe they only got to know each other more during all the graduation collabs.
Mel was pretty much on hiatus during the first half of 2020, because of the manager that stalked her, and then came the Taiwan yab.
That leaves little time for normal collabs.

They probably hang out irl on a regular basis, they just don't show it to the fans, and an offcollab stream is difficult to schedule as the girls are occupied most of the time. Moreover, people like Rika and Guutara are reluctant to show their face on stream, so it depends on the content that they will participate (the takoyaki offcollab is a prime example).

Unless they did something in the pre-Holocaust era that I can't remember, their first stream collab was a meme review just a couple months before the graduation. And a little bit after that Choco, who is good friends with both of them, invited them for a 3 person collab on her channel. So sometime around that time period they apparently really hit it off and became friends. I don't remember if Coco ever talked about it much, but Kson said that Choco frequently asks them out so I would assume their friendship mostly grew offline.
